the practical non-relative nature of time

The longest day of the year and the sun set by 8:30. Something I can't quite get used to about living on the East Coast.

Yes, but it will be getting light at 4:30 in the morning tomorrow.

I don't think it is because you live on the east coast per se. I think it is where you live in the time zone. If you live near the western border of the time zone (say like Salt Lake or Chattanooga) it gets dark at 9:30, but if you live at the eastern edge of the time zone, (say like Nashville or Philadelphia)its getting dark at around 8:30.

I think you're both right. I spent last week in Cincinnati (at the western edge of the eastern time zone) and it was light well into the 9:00 hour. In eastern Idaho this time of year it's barely dusk at 9:30.
The true sad thing is that days are now getting shorter.
